Unplugged Coding in Year 5

The students in Mrs Sahai's class began their exploration of 'Robot Evacuation' by viewing a provocation Animoto video showcasing how robots are utilised to assist humans in various context, including right here in Perth.

Also, the students learned to research their own examples using Google Advanced Search and identifying quality websites and files using site search (.org .gov) and file search (.pdf .png) filters. Further, the class learned how to be a robot and a robot programmer in an unplugged coding task where one partner wrote an algorithm using language specifically for the task of stacking cups for their partner 'the robot' to carry out. The students demonstrated a solid conceptualisation of computational thinking and will be well placed to commence coding in the 'Navigating Ideas' and 'Create Prototype' phase of the inquiry ( 'N' & 'C' of the LAUNCH cycle design thinking process).
